News Advisory-Professor Chris Polge visit
FORT COLLINS--Professor Chris Polge, the world-class scientist who
pioneered methods for cryopreservation, the technique of preserving
live cells so they can be reused, is in Fort Collins through Wednesday.
Polge's innovative discovery of techniques
for cryopreservation of living cells, sperm and embryos prompted the
development of the science of cryobiology and worldwide use of frozen
sperm and embryos for genetic improvement of livestock.
Reporters are invited to attend Polge's
lecture on the 50-year history of cryopreservation. The 30-minute talk
begins at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday in the seminar room of the Animal Reproduction
and Biological Sciences Laboratory on the Foothills Research Campus
of Colorado State University.
Polge also is available for interviews
from 12:30 p.m-3 p.m. Wednesday. To schedule an interview, call 970/484-7500.
Polge is being hosted by XY Inc., a local
biotechnology firm that recently announced the birth of Call Me Madam,
the first horse in the world to have her sex selected prior to conception.
Polge, a professor of animal reproductive
biotechnology at University of Cambridge, England, and XY Inc. scientific
advisory committee member, is in Fort Collins to attend XY Inc.'s annual
