2005
|
The world’s first sex-selected marine mammal, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, was born October 2005 at SeaWorld San Diego, using, XY® Inc. sex-selection technology. SeaWorld’s sex-selected dolphin calf is a first for the zoological community.
|
|
Mexico’s first sexed dairy calves were born February 2005. XY-Mexico SA d’CV, a subsidiary of XY Inc., worked with major Mexican dairymen to produce the calves, using XY® Inc. sex-selection technology. |
2004
| In August 2004, XY Inc. and DakoCytomation
jointly sign an agreement worth more than $10 million to work with
GoldCattle Bio. Inc. and China National Animal Breeding Stock Export/Import
Corporation (CABS). The aim of the agreement is to improve the quantity
and quality of the dairy herd in China, and in turn, to substantially
increase milk production in that country. |
2003
|
First Lady is born, the world's first foal produced from Call Me
Madam, the world's first sex-selected filly in 1998, and Augustus
Primus, the world's first sex-selected colt in 1999. Researchers
sorted the stallion sperm for only female-producing sperm. First
Lady was conceived using 17 million sperm - just 3 percent of the
recognized "standard" dosage used with artificial insemination
in horses. |
2002
XY Inc. worked with Australian researchers to combine sex-sorted
equine sperm with embryo transfer to successfully produce Ballerina,
whose dam is a high-quality polo mare. XY Inc. scientists
continued their breakthrough equine research:
- Successfully stored sperm up to 12 hours after sorting;
- Improved cryopreservation techniques after sorting stallion
sperm (semen stored for 18 hours, then sorted, then frozen).
Mares were successfully impregnated with the stored, sorted
then frozen/thawed sperm.
- Successfully sorted sperm from Augustus Primus and Al Barak,
the world's first sex-selected stallions.
|
2001
Throughout 2001, XY Inc., completed cattle trials with more
than 2,000 cattle from leading U.S. breeders. The trials demonstrated:
- the effectiveness of low-dose sorted sperm in Holstein heifers;
- the economic benefit of using sorted sperm for rapid production
of crossbred heifers;
- the success of sorted sperm in helping produce multiple sex-selected
embryos from superovulated donors, and;
- the lack of any negative effect from the stain, laser intensity
or freezing concentrations in 1,200 heifers bred with sorted/frozen/thawed
sperm.
|
Also in 2001, XY Inc.'s German collaborators produce piglets using
sexed sperm and the new technique of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection
(ICSI) - another world first. |
| |
In October 2001, XY Inc., and Sydney University announced another
world first -- 25 lambs produced with sexed sperm that had been
frozen, thawed and then inseminated by artificial insemination.
|
| |
In July 2001, XY Inc. took first place in the technology/agribusiness
category of the IQ Awards, a Colorado program that recognizes corporate
innovation. |
| |
On May 5, 2001, Star Man, the world's first foal produced using
fresh-shipped, sorted, low-dose sperm via artificial insemination,
was born. |
2000
On Dec. 4, 2000, XY Inc.'s collaborator in Switzerland -- BIG X
-- announced the first dairy calves born in Switzerland using sexed
sperm and artificial insemination. |
| |
In November 2000, XY Inc. acquired Moondrift Farm in Fort Collins,
Colo., USA, a 50-acre horse ranch that serves as XY Inc.'s equine
research facility and corporate headquarters. |
| |
In September 2000, demand for sexed-sperm increased so rapidly that
Cogent expanded its operations to include 10 MoFlo's running 24
hours each day. |
| |
A world first: In July 2000, Cogent and XY Inc. announced sexed
sperm will be commercially available in the UK beginning in September.
XY Inc. received its first-ever patent for work done "in-house"
by XY Inc. employees and consultants. |
| |
Also in the summer of 2000 "Nadine" was born -- the first
filly in the world produced using AI and low dose sexed, frozen,
thawed sperm. |
| |
In May and June 2000, XY Inc. announced the births of "La Luna"
and "Alexander the Great", the first filly and colt produced
using artificial insemination and 5-million sexed sperm (just 1%
of what is generally regarded as a minimal dose of 500-million sperm).
|
| |
Throughout 2000, XY Inc. intensified its commitment to support the
proliferation of exotic and/or endangered species by sexing such
exotic animals as elk and bison, and such endangered species as
Lowland gorillas and Cleveland Bay horses. In January 2000,
XY Inc. settled terms for Cogent's future commercial license for
cattle in the United Kingdom and Ireland (the first commercial
license of its kind in the world), and also agreed upon criteria
for field trials that could permit Cogent to start commercial
sales in the UK in late 2000. |
1999
|
In July and August 1999, four healthy XY Inc. foals were delivered--the
first horses in the world to be conceived using gender-selected
semen combined with non-surgical AI. |
| |
In May 1999, XY Inc., in collaboration with Cogent, a dairy cooperative
in the United Kingdom, produced heifer calves Chloe, Clover and
Charity--England's first dairy calves produced using XY Inc. know-how
combining low-dose sexed-sperm and AI. |
1998
| In 1998, XY Inc. researchers achieved pregnancies in heifers
using low-dose, sorted, frozen and thawed sperm. The resulting
calves were born in early 1999, paving the way for worldwide commercialization
of this technique.
Meanwhile, collaborators of XY Inc., working in other locations
achieved the first live births of multiple litters of piglets
using gender-selected sperm and the technology of USDA patent
#5,135,759. |
| |
Also in 1997, XY Inc. achieved the first pregnancy in the world
of a mare using sorted sperm and low-dose surgical insemination.
"Call Me Madam," the first horse in the world whose sex
was selected prior to conception, was born Aug. 6, 1998, to much
fanfare and worldwide recognition. |
1997
XY Inc. conducted its first large field trial in 1997 using sorted
bull sperm and artificial insemination (AI). Researchers bred 102
heifers under rigid scientific protocols and unequivocally showed
that flow-cytometric sorting of bull semen with the MoFlo® cytometer,
combined with XY Inc. know-how, resulted in 95% of the pregnancies
being of the selected sex. The successful results were published
in Theriogenology 49:365, 1998. |
